Mahama sets July Republic Day for launch of 24-Hour Economy policy

President John Dramani Mahama announced the launch of his 24-Hour Economy policy. It will take place in July this year. Ghana’s Republic Day is the planned date for this event. He describes it as a bold national agenda for transformation.

Mahama shared details during a stakeholder meeting at Jubilee House. He explained that the policy aims to boost Ghana’s economic growth. This will happen through increased productivity across all sectors.

“The 24-hour Economy policy reflects high productivity and capital utilization,” he said. “We will operate in multiple shifts, maximizing our resources and innovation.”

A key part of the plan focuses on transforming the Volta Lake corridor. This area will become a national production and logistics zone.

The plan includes cultivating over two million hectares of arable land by the lake. It also aims to revitalize the fishery sector and create industrial parks for local markets.

To support this transformation, Mahama emphasized public-private partnerships. These partnerships will help develop infrastructure and attract investment.

“New floating assets, lake ports, and long-term investments will be coordinated with VRA,” he explained.

He also mentioned financing mechanisms for the initiative. The Development Bank of Ghana and Venture Capital Trust Fund will support SMEs, cooperatives, and agribusinesses.

In summary, Mahama stressed that the 24-hour Economy is more than a political promise. It is a national mission aimed at inclusive development.

“This policy is about shared growth, decent jobs, competitive exports, and long-term prosperity,” he said. “Now we must work together to make it happen.”
