Mahama Shares How Asantehene Saved His Political Career
President John Mahama recently discussed how the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, saved his political career.
Before the 2008 election, Mahama declined to be John Atta Mills' running mate. He had planned to leave politics at that time.
Mahama recalled that Mills sent several groups to persuade him. Despite their efforts, he remained firm in his decision.
It was only when the Asantehene intervened that Mahama reconsidered. Otumfuo told him, "When your country calls you, you can’t refuse."
Mahama felt he could not ignore such a request from the Asantehene. Eventually, he became Mills' running mate and they won the election.
