Former Auditor General, Daniel Yao Domelevo, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for directing his appointees to declare their assets but stressed that the process should have been completed before their swearing-in.
Speaking on Joy FM, Domelevo emphasized that asset declaration is crucial for transparency and accountability in governance.
However, he noted that the directive, issued during the swearing-in of six new ministers on January 22, came late.
"If I were the president...I would have told them...go and declare your assets and liabilities before I swear you in," Domelevo said, advocating for a stricter pre-appointment approach.
He also called on institutions like CHRAJ to enforce asset declaration laws proactively, arguing that it would deter corruption and bolster public confidence.
Domelevo urged President Mahama to institutionalize a policy requiring pre-swearing-in asset declarations for future appointees, describing it as a cornerstone for combating corruption and ensuring accountability.
