Mahama slams NPP over “deceptive” Sunyani hospital upgrade

President John Dramani Mahama criticized the previous NPP administration. He called their upgrade of the Sunyani Regional Hospital deceptive. During his Thank-you tour in the Bono Region, he spoke on May 30.

Mahama stated that the hospital lacked proper infrastructure and legal backing. He announced plans to legally upgrade the hospital immediately. “The previous government’s announcement was not backed by legislation,” he said.

He added, “We have corrected that.” The Council of State has approved the board for the hospital. Collaboration with UENR is underway to train health professionals for Bono and beyond.

The President also announced a new medical school at UENR. He noted that UENR has faced stagnation due to lack of investment. The new NDC administration aims to change this situation.

One of their first steps is un-capping the GETFund. This will provide more resources for critical infrastructure projects in education. The GETFund recently audited UENR and will soon start construction for the medical school.
