Mahama, the way your gov’t is handling me is not right – Wontumi ‘cries out’

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He has expressed concern about how he is treated under President John Dramani Mahama's administration.

Wontumi stated that he never served in Akufo-Addo’s government. He questioned why the Mahama government is attacking him. He believes their treatment of him is unfair.

In an interview on Wontumi TV on May 15, 2025, he said, “They know Wontumi is winning, so they want to attack me.” He emphasized that he has never held a government position or worked on any board.

He asked why his accounts were frozen if no minister had given him a job. “Mahama, your government’s actions are not right,” he added. He feels this situation stems from personal hatred and wrongful accusations.

The Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) has frozen all of Wontumi’s accounts. This action follows Section 56(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020.

A document from the FIC states: “Freeze all accounts related to Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), Akonta Mining, and Hallmark Civil Engineering Limited.”

Additionally, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah announced plans to revoke Akonta Mining Co. Ltd's lease immediately.
