President John Dramani Mahama has urged the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to examine government policies closely. He believes accountability is crucial for the nation’s progress.
During a visit from GBA leader Efua Ghartey on March 26, he reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and good governance. He welcomes constructive feedback from civil society organizations.
President Mahama highlighted the GBA's role in upholding the rule of law and democracy. He praised their advocacy for human rights, constitutional freedoms, and legal integrity. Their contributions are vital for national development.
He stressed that civil society must voice concerns when governance falters. The GBA should remain vigilant in ensuring accountability. The government should always welcome critique and guidance from independent bodies.
“You have been a strong advocate for the rule of law,” Mahama said. “Your role is important for our society to progress.”
He compared governance to a journey, noting leaders may miss missteps without outside input. Observers can help point out these errors.
Mahama assured the GBA of his administration’s openness to constructive feedback. “If someone is charting a path, they may not see it is crooked,” he explained. “Onlookers can help identify those issues.”
