Mahama to Opoku-Agyemang: ‘Principalities who wished you worse will be disappointed’

President John Dramani Mahama welcomed Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang back to Ghana on May 22, 2025. She returned after recovering from an illness.

In his welcome address, President Mahama expressed relief and joy. He said, “The prophets who arose after your illness will be happy that you came back. The principalities too, who were wishing the worst, will be very disappointed.”

He shared positive news about her health from doctors. “They say you are 20 years younger,” he noted. He added that she is fit for her job.

Despite this good news, he advised caution. “We will ask that you take it easy for a little while,” he said.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang had been on medical leave since March 28, 2025. She first received treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre and later sought care abroad.

Her absence raised concerns about governance continuity. This was especially true when both leaders were out of the country simultaneously.

With her return, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang is expected to gradually resume her duties. She will contribute to the government’s ongoing initiatives and policies.
