The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, is confident. He believes President John Dramani Mahama will quickly sign the new bill. This bill abolishes the E-Levy, Emission Levy, and Betting Tax.
Parliament recently approved this important legislation. It aims to provide relief to businesses and individuals affected by these taxes.
The Emission Levy was introduced in 2024. It aimed to promote environmental sustainability but faced strong opposition. Vehicle owners and businesses argued it created a heavy financial burden.
Dr. Ato Forson announced the passage of the Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025. This bill removes the Betting Tax and other levies. He expressed confidence that President Mahama would sign it promptly.
The 10% Betting Tax aimed to generate revenue from gambling. However, it was criticized for discouraging participation among bettors and reducing operator revenue.
Repealing these levies may ease tax obligations across various sectors. It could also reshape income tax structures and corporate taxation.
After the bill's passage, Dr. Ato Forson shared his optimism on social media. He reiterated his belief in the President’s willingness to approve the changes without delay.
