Mahama touts leanest gov't in Fourth Republic with just 56 appointees

President John Mahama claims his administration is the most efficient in Ghana's Fourth Republic. He highlighted a record-low number of ministerial appointments.

In a national address marking his first 120 days in office, he stated he fulfilled his promise to form a lean government within 90 days.

So far, only 56 ministers and deputy ministers have been appointed. This is the lowest number by any president in the Fourth Republic.

“I promised to create the leanest and most efficient government within 90 days,” he said. “I announced my cabinet list for parliamentary approval within 14 days of being sworn in.”

He noted that all ministers were successfully vetted and approved. They are now actively working on their responsibilities.

Additionally, President Mahama mentioned that the nomination process for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) is ongoing. Confirmations are at various stages across the country.

He stressed that completing local governance is crucial for his development agenda. “Our MMDCEs are going through confirmation phases to finalize our local governance team,” he added.
