Mahama urges Zongo youth to take advantage of government’s new initiatives

President John Dramani Mahama has encouraged youth in Zongos and inner cities. He wants them to take advantage of new government initiatives. This includes the National Apprenticeship Programme for skill development.

He also highlighted the Adwumawurah Programme. This program helps young people start their own businesses with capital and mentorship.

President Mahama spoke during the national Eid al-Adha prayers at Blackstar Square in Accra. He mentioned that many programs will be launched under the Youth Employment Agency. These programs aim to equip youth with life skills, promoting independence and leadership.

“We will ensure that Zongo communities are no longer neglected,” he said. The new Zongo Development Framework will focus on infrastructure, sanitation, health, sports, and vocational training.

“I believe every Ghanaian child deserves a fair shot at success,” he added. It doesn’t matter where they are born, whether in Nima or Airport Residential Area.

President Mahama recently set up a Committee for the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving. This multi-religious Committee includes both Muslims and Christians.

He reported that their work is progressing well. On July 1st, both Muslim and Christian prayers will thank Allah for His blessings on Ghana.

“Allah says if we thank Him for His blessings, He will give us more,” he noted. He believes that after July 1st, the economy will improve and life will get better for Ghanaians.

Regarding the economy, President Mahama acknowledged family struggles due to high prices and scarce jobs. He assured citizens that the Government is working urgently to improve conditions.

“Our economic reset agenda focuses on stabilizing the cedi,” he explained. It also aims to cut wasteful spending, create jobs, and support local industries.

He shared positive news about inflation slowly declining and the cedi gaining stability. Concrete steps are being taken to restore investor confidence and relieve households from hardship.

The President emphasized that building the economy requires youth involvement, especially from vibrant Zongo youth.

“As we celebrate this holy day, let’s recommit to our shared values,” he urged—values like faith, sacrifice, love, and unity.

“Let us remember those in need: the poor, orphans, widows, sick individuals, and the elderly,” he concluded.
