President John Dramani Mahama has visited Kumasi’s Central Business District in Adum to assess the aftermath of a massive fire that destroyed hundreds of shops and left traders devastated.
The fire, which erupted in the early hours of Friday, March 21, caused significant losses as traders struggled to salvage their goods. During his visit, Mahama sympathized with affected traders and assured them of government support, emphasizing the need for swift intervention.
He also called for a thorough investigation into the fire's cause and cautioned traders against cooking in the market, noting that gas cylinders contributed to the disaster.
Firefighters faced difficulties in controlling the blaze due to obstructed access and delayed response times.
Some traders linked the fire to ongoing power outages.
Mahama’s presence was met with gratitude, as traders welcomed his pledge to assist them in recovering from their losses.
