Mahama visits Vice President on Mother's Day

President John Dramani Mahama has sent warm Mother’s Day wishes to Ghanaian mothers. He gave a special tribute to Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who is recovering from an illness.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang fell ill on Friday, March 28, 2025. She sought medical attention at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the next day.

The government stated that medical experts advised her to seek further treatment abroad. This was recommended as a precaution for her full recovery.

Following this advice, Prof Opoku-Agyemang began a three-week medical leave on April 7, 2025. She prioritized her health and well-being during this time.

On Sunday, May 11, President Mahama shared a message on his official Facebook page. He mentioned visiting the Vice President earlier that day and expressed happiness about her recovery.

He wrote, “A special Mother’s Day greeting to my Vice President.” He noted she is resting after her illness and looks forward to resuming her duties soon.

President Mahama also took the chance to appreciate all mothers in Ghana. He concluded with, “To her and all Ghanaian mothers, I say Happy Mother’s Day.”
