Mahama vows to upgrade Nursing and Midwifery Training Colleges to degree-awarding institutions

President John Mahama has announced plans to upgrade nursing and midwifery colleges in Ghana. This initiative aims to make them degree-awarding institutions. It is part of efforts to improve tertiary education and healthcare delivery.

During his Thank You tour in the Ahafo Region on Saturday, May 31, Mr. Mahama spoke about educational disparities. He emphasized the need to address these gaps, especially in underserved areas.

He highlighted the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s commitment to quality higher education. The party plans strategic investments in infrastructure to increase access.

“We are dedicated to expanding tertiary education in underserved regions,” he said. He also mentioned plans for a new university in Ahafo Region. This university will focus on agriculture, natural resources, and health sciences.

Mr. Mahama believes upgrading health training institutions will enhance nursing and midwifery education. This change will strengthen the overall healthcare system.

“We will elevate selected nursing and midwifery colleges into degree-awarding institutions,” he stated. Additionally, he promised continued support for schools through bus distributions.

This support aims to help senior high schools and health training institutions with transportation challenges. It will enhance teaching and learning environments across the country.
