Former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has revealed that President-elect John Dramani Mahama intends to complete the National Cathedral, but only after consulting with the church to determine its necessity for the nation.
Speaking on TV3, Iddrisu assured that Mahama would not use public funds for the project, emphasizing his prudence in financial matters.
“If the country needs a cathedral, Mahama will sit with the church to decide, but not at the expense of state resources,” Iddrisu stated, adding that a value-for-money audit would guide decisions on all ongoing projects.
The National Cathedral, a personal promise by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has been mired in scandals, with $38 million in questionable expenditures contributing to public backlash and possibly influencing the NPP's electoral loss.
