Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has disclosed that President John Mahama is leading diplomatic efforts to bring Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso back into ECOWAS.
The three nations exited the bloc in 2024 over governance and security concerns. Ablakwa revealed that Mahama has appointed a special envoy for negotiations and will embark on diplomatic visits soon.
Speaking on TV3, he expressed confidence in Mahama’s ability to restore regional unity.
Ablakwa also highlighted Ghana’s focus on economic diplomacy under Mahama’s leadership and hinted at potential engagement with BRICS.
He stressed the importance of positioning Ghana strategically in global alliances while maintaining strong ties with traditional financial institutions like the IMF and World Bank.
