**Mahama Administration to Continue Multi-Billion Dollar Petroleum Hub Project**
The Mahama administration plans to advance the multi-billion dollar Petroleum Hub project in Jomoro. Dr. Tony Aubynn, CEO of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation, confirmed this commitment. He stated that funds will be allocated to purchase necessary land.
The project aims to create over 700,000 jobs upon completion. This information was shared by Aubynn during a meeting with the Western Region minister on March 21.
The Petroleum Hub project began under the Akufo-Addo administration in 2024. Aubynn emphasized President Mahama's vision to continue this initiative for development.
During a previous meeting with regional chiefs, there was strong support for the project. The chiefs expressed their enthusiasm for seeing it come to fruition.
The project is expected to significantly boost the Western Region's economy. It could transform Jomoro into a hub similar to "Rathadam" in Ireland.
The first phase has a budget of $12 billion. This phase includes a refinery with a capacity of 300,000 barrels per day and other facilities.
Aubynn noted that funds are needed for the 20,000 acres of land acquired by the previous government. He mentioned that no payments have been made yet for this land.
President Mahama is eager to resolve these payment issues quickly. Additionally, Aubynn announced a training program for local youth related to the Hub Project.
Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson acknowledged the project's potential benefits. He highlighted its importance in addressing unemployment challenges in the region.
Nelson expressed excitement about having the hub operational soon and pledged support from his office. Local communities have raised concerns about the size of land allocated for the project.
Some residents feel that 20,000 acres is excessive and want part returned for local use. The minister believes these concerns can be addressed through effective leadership from Dr. Aubynn.
**About the Petroleum Hub Project**
In August 2024, former President Nana Akufo-Addo initiated work on phase one of this project in Nawule community. The goal is to build a refinery capable of processing 3,000 barrels per day and create numerous jobs.
This followed a $12 billion agreement between Petroleum Hub Development Corporation and TCP-UIC consortium in 2024. The Petroleum Hub aims to become an integrated petroleum complex enhancing Africa's oil and gas industry.
