A poll by Global InfoAnalytics shows that most Ghanaians want Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo removed. The survey took place from April 7 to April 16, 2025. It included 2,545 voters from all 16 regions of Ghana.
The results reveal that 52% support her removal, while 20% oppose it. Additionally, 18% were neutral and 10% had no opinion. When asked about supporting the removal if legal misconduct was proven, 30% said yes. Meanwhile, 35% remained opposed, and others stayed neutral or had no opinion.
The poll also showed regional differences in opinions. In Greater Accra Region, 58% supported her removal; only 16% opposed it. In Central Region, support was at 51%, with the same opposition rate of 16%. However, Ahafo and Upper East regions did not show majority support for removal.
Educational background influenced opinions as well. Among those with junior high school education, 57% supported the removal; only 17% opposed it. For senior high school graduates, support was at 50%, while opposition was at 21%. Among tertiary-educated respondents, support stood at 54%, with an opposition rate of 18%. Even among those without formal education, support reached 37%, while opposition was at 30%.
Political affiliations also affected voter opinions significantly. Among John Dramani Mahama's supporters from the last election, a striking 79% favored removal; only 4% opposed it. In contrast, among Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's supporters, just 17% backed the removal while nearly half (47%) opposed it. Voters who supported other candidates showed mixed feelings:
38% in favor of removal and
19% against it.
This poll highlights complex public opinions regarding the Chief Justice's role in Ghana. It emphasizes how regional differences and educational backgrounds shape voter sentiment on this issue.
