Former Attorney General Godfred Dame represents suspended Chief Justice Torkornoo. He revealed that male security personnel scanned her body. This statement follows the Chief Justice's complaints about her treatment during impeachment proceedings.
In a supplementary affidavit, Torkornoo claims her fundamental rights are being violated. She filed this affidavit with the Supreme Court on May 26, 2025. The Chief Justice mentioned several troubling incidents.
She noted that her husband and children were denied access to hearings. She also reported searches of her body and restrictions on communication devices. Meanwhile, petitioners had access to their phones and laptops.
Torkornoo stated, “They want to break me.” She emphasized that her treatment is harsher than what treason suspects face. She believes the Supreme Court is her only protection against unconstitutional actions.
The suspended Chief Justice expressed concern over not knowing the allegations against her. “How can I defend myself when I don’t even know what I’m defending against?” she asked.
She criticized the location of the proceedings in a high-security facility as unusual. Torkornoo described the process as a “mockery of justice.”
On May 23, 2025, despite ongoing legal processes, the committee continued its inquiry into her case. Torkornoo warned that this situation threatens judicial independence and constitutional integrity.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has dismissed Torkornoo's injunction application regarding these proceedings.
