Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II, the respected ruler of Asante Mampong, will be buried on June 9, 2025.
The Asante Kingdom will hold a royal farewell from June 6 to 9, 2025, in Asante Mampong. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, will lead the final rites on June 9.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu II served the Ashanti Kingdom for many years. He was one of the Paramount Chiefs of the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area. He reigned for 26 years without any chieftaincy disputes.
Records show he is the only Paramount Chief installed since 1930. His leadership brought peace to the Traditional Area.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu II was enstooled on August 25, 1996. He succeeded his uncle, Nana Atakora Amaniampong II, who abdicated. In private life, he was known as Saint Oswald Gyimah-Kessie and was born on December 31, 1939.
He attended Prempeh College and the University of Ghana at Legon. Before becoming Mamponghene, he worked as Registrar at KNUST in Kumasi.
Recently, he made headlines by issuing an ultimatum to NDC leaders in Mampong Constituency.
