Mamponghene condemns NDC office chaos, warns against tribal politics

The Paramount Chief of Mampong, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, condemned recent violence at the NDC office. He urged political leaders to show restraint and promote unity.

Supporters of the ruling NDC protested over the nomination of a Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). They accused party leaders of ignoring local preferences. The two-day protest escalated into confrontations, disrupting public peace. Traditional authorities sharply criticized these actions.

During a meeting with NDC leaders, the chief expressed his disappointment. He called the altercation “unfortunate and saddening.” He warned that such incidents could harm social cohesion in Mampong and Asanteman.

“Mampong and Asanteman do not belong to any political party,” he stated. “We are all Ghanaians.” He emphasized that he does not want similar incidents to occur again.

Daasebre also addressed the use of tribal language during protests. He warned against inflaming ethnic tensions for political gain. “I don’t want any tribal war in Mampong,” he cautioned.

The chief affirmed his respect for both the NDC and NPP parties. He expects political leaders to act with maturity and responsibility. “If you are an executive, show leadership,” he said directly to NDC executives.

In response, NDC leaders assured the chief they would de-escalate tensions. They committed to resolving internal disagreements through dialogue. They pledged immediate steps to calm the situation and engage local stakeholders.

This incident has led to calls for political actors in the region to prioritize peace. Leaders are urged to avoid divisive rhetoric and respect traditional authority as Ghana approaches future elections.
