A tragic incident occurred in Twifo Praso on May 12, 2025. Samuel Kwame Afezei, likely in his 50s, lost his life. He was electrocuted while working on the third floor of a building.
The building is near a high-tension power line and an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer. This location is in Twifo Praso Zongo, within the Twifo Atti Morkwa District.
Residents are angry about the incident. They had previously raised concerns about safety during construction but received no response.
Richmond Banny, the Assembly Member for Zongo-Anogyan Electoral Area, spoke out. He said he warned ECG management and the district engineer about potential dangers before the tragedy.
Despite these warnings, construction continued near high-voltage wires and equipment. Mr. Banny noted that political interference may have prevented action from authorities.
This incident has caused fear among tenants on the first and second floors of the building.
In light of this tragedy, Mr. Banny has called for intervention from the Twifo Atti Morkwa District Chief Executive. He urges necessary measures to ensure safety for residents and workers in the future.
