Man remanded into custody over assaulting woman with baby in viral video

An Accra-based Gender Violence Court has remanded Nii Baah Afful. He is a suspect in an assault case. He will remain in custody for two weeks. He must reappear in court on April 9, 2025.

Nii Baah Afful, a 29-year-old fisherman, was arrested by the police. This followed a viral video showing him assaulting a woman with an 8-month-old baby. The incident happened on March 20, 2025, at Korle Gonno, Accra. It occurred after a misunderstanding between the couple.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Nii Baah and the victim live together. The victim is Francisca Aryee, aged 21. They have two children together. She tried to leave for her mother's house but was pursued and assaulted.

The Police Intelligence Unit arrested Nii Baah Afful on March 22, 2025, around 5 pm. He is currently detained for further action. The victim has been located and will receive medical care and counseling.
