Victor Fosu-Boamah, a governance consultant, has called for the removal of the President's power to appoint 30% of district assembly members, proposing that this authority be given to the National House of Chiefs.
He believes the power, enshrined in the 1992 Constitution, has been abused by successive presidents to reward political allies, undermining Ghana's decentralisation process.
Speaking at a public forum in Sunyani, Fosu-Boamah also suggested revising the roles of Regional Co-ordinating Councils (RCCs) for better resource allocation and highlighted the potential of decentralisation to reduce unemployment.
