Manhunt ongoing for alleged kingpin behind Sapeiman counterfeit syndicate

A manhunt is ongoing for the alleged leader of a counterfeiting syndicate. This group was busted in Sapeiman, a suburb of Accra, in February.

Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, provided this update. He spoke during an exclusive tour of the crime scene.

The operation uncovered significant evidence. Authorities found ten 40-foot containers filled with counterfeit Ghana cedi and US dollars. However, two containers were moved just before the bust.

In a surprising twist, investigators discovered genuine Bank of Ghana money boxes at the site. This raises questions about how they ended up with the criminals.

Investigators also found an uncompleted building that served as the main front for the operation. An elderly man known as the “Battery Doctor” ran a battery-charging service there to deflect suspicion.

Inside, authorities discovered stacks of counterfeit notes in various denominations. They also found fake gold bars that were peeling to reveal silver underneath.

Jakpa confirmed that the syndicate was highly organized. It is led by a figure known only as “Alhaji,” who remains at large. National Security operatives are actively tracking his movements.
