The Ghana Police Service has shared more details about the murder of two officers. This tragic event occurred on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in Poyamirea near Binduri.
According to an official statement, the officers were off-duty. They were traveling on private motorbikes from Bongo to Binduri when they were attacked. Unknown assailants, believed to be armed robbers, shot and killed them. The attackers then stole their motorbikes.
The police are actively searching for the robbers. They have not released the names of the deceased officers yet. This is to allow time for notifying their families.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi assured the public that justice will be served. She emphasized that the perpetrators will be caught and punished.
The police also expressed condolences to the families and colleagues of the slain officers. They stated, “Our hearts and prayers are with you.”
On the same day, another violent incident occurred in Binduri. An unidentified man was shot and later set on fire by unknown gunmen. Residents found his charred body along with a burnt motorcycle.
In response to rising insecurity in the area, the Ministry for the Interior announced a curfew review. The new curfew hours are now from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., effective immediately.
This decision follows advice from the Upper East Regional Security Council. Additionally, wearing smocks and carrying weapons in public is banned. Movement of motorcycles and tricycles—known as aboboyaa—is also prohibited.
Anyone who violates these restrictions will face arrest and prosecution.
