Many NPP members didn't vote in 2024 due to 'wrong candidate choice' - Owusu Bempah claims

Ernest Owusu Bempah is the Deputy Communications Officer of the NPP. He claims over two million party members did not vote in the 2024 elections. He attributes this to the selection of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the presidential candidate.

In an interview on Oyerepa TV, he expressed disappointment with voter turnout. Many NPP supporters felt disillusioned by this choice, leading them to abstain from voting.

He shared a story about a taxi driver who voted for the NDC. The driver showed his party card and explained he could not support Bawumia.

Owusu Bempah claimed that 2.1 million NPP members stayed home because they disliked the candidate. He urged people to ask ordinary voters why they chose not to participate.

He criticized party leadership for ignoring member opinions during candidate selection. This failure contributed to low voter turnout, he argued.

He called for Prof Mike Oquaye's Committee to release its report on the elections. His comments come as the NPP aims to rebuild its support base after disappointing results.

Party leaders plan to review election outcomes and strategize for future success. They will rely on recommendations from Prof Oquaye's Committee for guidance moving forward.
