Margaret Naana Ackom confirmed as first female DCE of Gomoa East

Margaret Naana Ackom has been confirmed as the first female District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East. She received unanimous approval with 18 ‘yes’ votes. The confirmation election took place at the Assembly Hall in Potsin on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

All 18 members of the Gomoa East Assembly voted in favor of her nomination. This included both elected assembly members and government appointees. Her endorsement was a full 100%.

Naana Ackom was nominated by President John Mahama. She is part of the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). This follows Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended.

The confirmation brought joy to friends, party supporters, and well-wishers. In her acceptance speech, Naana Ackom thanked the Assembly Members and people of Gomoa East. She promised to focus on unity and inclusive development in the district.

“I’m humbled by the trust placed in me,” she said. “I will work tirelessly to bring development to every corner of Gomoa East.” As the first woman DCE in the district, she aims to support women’s advancement in leadership and community development.

The event had several dignitaries present. These included Central Regional Minister Ekow Panyin and MP Desmond Paitoo De-Graft. Traditional leaders from Gomoa East also attended.

Obrempong Akrampah, Omanhene of Gomoa, congratulated Madam Ackom. He expressed hope that her leadership would tackle key issues like infrastructure deficits and youth unemployment. He assured her of his full support.

Before her nomination, Madam Naana Ackom served as Deputy Director of Welfare for the Central Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
