The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a public warning.
Two alcoholic products, Kings Orange Flavoured Liqueur and Jupiter 1990, are unsafe.
Both drinks are unregistered and tested positive for marijuana extracts.
They are suspected to be illegally made by FAMUDE Catering Services in the Ashanti Region.
Kings Orange Flavoured Liqueur was registered with the FDA in 2022.
However, routine checks in July 2023 found traces of marijuana in it.
As a result, the FDA shut down FAMUDE’s facility and revoked its license.
The case has been referred to the Suntresu District Police for further action.
The FDA continues to monitor the situation with help from police units.
In April 2025, the FDA learned that Kings Orange Flavoured Liqueur was still being sold in Koforidua.
Investigations revealed a new unlicensed production site.
On April 30, 2025, a joint team raided this illegal site at Jachie Abidjan Nkwanta.
They found bags of dried marijuana and labels for both drinks.
Laboratory tests confirmed that both drinks contained marijuana extracts.
All seized items were given to the police for ongoing investigations.
The FDA warned that these products may have been secretly produced with marijuana.
They are therefore unsafe for consumption.
The Authority advises retailers and wholesalers to stop selling these drinks immediately.
They should return any remaining stock to the nearest FDA office.
The public is urged not to buy or consume these drinks at all.
Consuming such unsafe alcoholic beverages can seriously harm your health.
This includes potential permanent damage to organs like the liver and kidneys.
The FDA remains committed to protecting public health through safe food and beverage regulation.
For inquiries or sightings of these products, please contact the FDA through official channels.
