Former Attorney General Martin Amidu has criticized the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) for its endorsement of the Chief Justice’s decision to close courts in Bolgatanga and surrounding areas.
He called the GBA's support "dangerous" for democracy and the rule of law, warning that blind loyalty to the Chief Justice risks compromising judicial independence.
Amidu questioned whether the closure was based on independent judgment or influenced by the National Security Council, emphasizing the need for transparency, especially as elections approach. He also argued that the closures infringe on citizens' access to justice and called for Parliamentary oversight of the decision.
