Martin Kpebu calls for commission of enquiry into search at ex-BoG Governor’s home

Private lawyer Martin Kpebu has called for an inquiry. He wants to investigate the search at former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison's home.

His request follows accusations from the Minority in Parliament. They claim National Security operatives stole GH₵10,000 and jewelry belonging to Dr. Addison’s wife. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin stated that these items were taken unlawfully, raising concerns about the operation's integrity.

Kpebu emphasized the need for transparency during searches. He believes searches should occur in the occupant's presence and be properly documented. "It should be videotaped," he said. He also suggested that security officers use body cameras for clear evidence if allegations arise.

Additionally, Kpebu mentioned that MP Jerry Ahmed Shaib reported an apology from the National Security Coordinator to Dr. Addison after the search.

Given these issues, Kpebu insists on a formal inquiry to establish facts and ensure accountability. “We need a commission of enquiry to get to the bottom of this matter,” he stated. If misconduct is proven, individuals can be barred from public office under certain constitutional articles, ensuring accountability.
