Martin Kpebu presses police for update on Akonta Mining investigation

Martin Kpebu Martin Kpebu

Lawyer Martin Kpebu has petitioned the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, demanding an update on the stalled probe into alleged illegal mining activities by Akonta Mining and its chairman, Bernard Antwi Bosiako (Chairman Wontumi).

In a letter dated February 24, 2025, Kpebu expressed frustration over the lack of progress since the initial petition was filed in October 2022.

He noted that aside from a single meeting in 2023, there have been no updates, despite follow-ups, including a 2024 letter.

The petition alleges that Akonta Mining engaged in illegal mining within the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve, violating Ghana’s mining laws.

Kpebu has urged the CID to expedite the case.
