On Saturday, April 19, hundreds of residents from Tsiame and nearby communities gathered to welcome Alexander Afenyo-Markin. He is the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu. This visit was part of a homecoming initiative focused on empowering women in business.
The large turnout showed how much the community respects Afenyo-Markin. The excitement among the people was palpable. Addressing the crowd, he called the warm reception humbling and significant. He stressed that community engagement is vital for national development.
Afenyo-Markin explained that his visit aimed to support women and young ladies. He wants to help improve living standards through acts of kindness. As part of this effort, he donated over 30 hairdryers, sewing machines, and other vocational tools.
He clarified that these donations were made out of goodwill. "I am not preparing to be an independent candidate," he stated firmly. "I just want to help my own people in my hometown."
Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpe, the MP for Keta, also attended the event. He praised Afenyo-Markin for his generosity and noted it would boost local apprenticeship programs. Gakpe encouraged other MPs to follow this example in their constituencies.
Bernard Suka, former Assembly Member for Tsiame, spoke with the Ghana News Agency about Afenyo-Markin’s contributions. He highlighted the MP's dedication to public service and its positive impact on the community. "The people of Tsiame are proud of him," Suka said.
He added that Afenyo-Markin has become a role model for many young people in Tsiame. Some beneficiaries expressed their gratitude and excitement about receiving donations. They pledged to use these items wisely to improve their livelihoods.
