President John Mahama has appointed Matilda Asante-Asiedu as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
This appointment is made under Section 17 of the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612). It shows the government's commitment to enhancing expertise in the financial sector.
The announcement was made in a statement by Felix Kwakye Ofosu. He is the Spokesperson for the President and Minister for Government Communications.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu brings a strong background to her new role. She holds an MBA in Marketing from GIMPA Business School, earned in 2021. She also has an MA in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University, obtained in 2005.
Her academic credentials include diplomas in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (1997) and Politics and Public Affairs Reporting from Berlin's International Institute of Journalism (2000).
Recently, she became a Chartered Executive Banker (CIB-Ghana, 2024), strengthening her qualifications in finance.
Professionally, she served as Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana PLC. There, she showed exceptional leadership and drove growth in retail financial services.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu has furthered her expertise through executive programs at top institutions. These include Said Business School at Oxford University (2023), Wharton School (2015), and Marquette University's Les Aspin Centre (2003).
This appointment comes at a crucial time for Ghana's economy. The Bank of Ghana faces challenges like inflation control and currency stability.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu's extensive banking experience makes her a valuable asset. She will help shape central bank policies and ensure financial stability.
