Maxwell Kudekor, a journalist and media unionist, is running for National Organising Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA). He promises to bring valuable experience and leadership to the role.
Kudekor works as the Eastern Regional Correspondent for Multimedia Group Ltd. He has over ten years of involvement in media unions. He confirmed his candidacy in a message to colleagues and stakeholders.
“I have submitted my nomination for the GJA National Organising Secretary position,” he stated. This announcement comes before the official campaign period begins.
Kudekor has a strong leadership background within the GJA, especially in the Eastern Region. He served two terms as Regional Secretary and two terms as Regional Chairman. This experience earned him a seat on the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Association.
He played a key role in revitalizing regional structures during his tenure. Kudekor focused on member mobilization and advocating for better benefits for journalists.
“My priority is to promote membership benefits,” he said. He aims to advance the interests of journalists, broadcasters, and media workers across Ghana and abroad.
His message arrives at a crucial time when journalists face threats like physical assaults and economic challenges. Kudekor emphasized defending press freedom and ensuring journalist safety.
“Together, we can protect media freedom and welfare,” he added, promoting solidarity among media professionals.
While announcing his candidacy, Kudekor committed to following the GJA electoral calendar closely. The Association will soon announce timelines for campaigning, vetting, and voting for national executive elections.
“As we await official campaigning, I seek your support,” he noted in his statement.
The National Organising Secretary plays a vital role within GJA’s executive structure. This position involves membership mobilization, strengthening unions, coordinating events, and connecting regional chapters with national policies.
With his extensive history in regional mobilization, Kudekor is expected to be a strong candidate in upcoming elections. His entry adds excitement as many anticipate competitive elections aimed at revitalizing leadership in journalism.
Kudekor holds a Master of Arts degree in Development Communication from the Ghana Institute of Journalism. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies from the same institution.
Additionally, he has a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from GIMPA. In 2023, he served as Interim Executive Committee Chairman for GIMPA Law Students Association.
At GIMPA, he reorganized the Law Students Association and led constitutional reviews. He conducted peaceful elections that restored order after prolonged disputes within the association.
