Meet the incoming Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ghana

The Grand Lodge of Ghana is preparing for a significant change. Right Worshipful (RW) Bro. Dr. Nortey Kwashie Omaboe will become the new Grand Master.

His installation is scheduled for May 10, 2025, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra. This event marks a new era in Ghanaian Freemasonry.

A Legacy of Service and Dedication

Bro. Dr. Omaboe has a distinguished Masonic journey. He has held several senior roles within the Grand Lodge. His experience and commitment to Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth are notable.

Since 2019, he has chaired the Grand Lodge Finance Committee. He played a key role in strengthening the Lodge’s financial foundation.

He led negotiations for the Grand Lodge Funeral Insurance Policy with Vanguard Assurance. He also oversaw fundraising for the Heal Okomfo Anokye Charity Project.

A Champion of Innovation and Resilience

As Deputy Grand Master from 2019 to 2022, Bro. Dr. Omaboe mobilised support for the COVID-19 Appeal Fund. His efforts ensured timely aid to members across all provinces.

He was instrumental in relocating the Grand Lodge Secretariat. He participated in global Masonic forums, including one hosted by France on COVID-19's impact on Freemasonry.

A Lifelong Commitment to Benevolence

Bro. Dr. Omaboe is dedicated to benevolence within the fraternity. Since 2018, he has been President of the Samaritan Foundation.

He modernised fund administration and introduced an IT platform for contributions. He also enhanced support for widows of departed brethren.

As President of the Board of Benevolence from 2013 to 2017, he created the Lewis Fund—the first autonomous charity under the Grand Lodge of Ghana.

A Visionary Leader with Global Reach

Bro. Dr. Omaboe has represented Ghana's Grand Lodge internationally in Côte d’Ivoire, UK, France, and South Africa.

He is a member of several prestigious lodges worldwide, including Masonry Universal Lodge No. 40 in Geneva and Herschel Lodge No. 1894 in the UK.

Scholar, Economist, and Traditional Leader

In addition to his Masonic service, Bro. Dr. Omaboe is an accomplished economist and business leader.

He holds a BA in Economics from Leeds University and an MBA from Columbia University.

He earned a Doctorate in Corporate Strategy from Paris ISM as well.

Nana Awuku Sakyi has served as Akyempemhene of Amanokrom for 25 years and as Mpuntuhene of Akuapem since 2020.

A Defining Moment for Freemasonry in Ghana

His installation as fifth Grand Master coincides with the 17th Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge on May 10, 2025.
