President John Mahama has appointed Mensah Thompson as the new Acting Deputy Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Thompson is the Executive Director of the Alliance For Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA). His appointment aims to strengthen SEC’s leadership during critical reforms in Ghana’s capital markets. These reforms are designed to boost investor confidence and enhance regulatory oversight.
Mensah Thompson holds a Bachelor of Law (LLB) degree from the University of Professional Studies, Accra. His legal background and civil society experience will help maintain market integrity and protect investors.
His expertise in public accountability is a valuable asset for SEC. It supports ongoing efforts to tighten enforcement and improve governance in Ghana’s securities market.
In his new role, Thompson will work under James Klutse Avedzi, the Acting Director-General of SEC. Avedzi took over after Rev. Daniel Ogbarmey Tetteh's departure.
This appointment comes at a crucial time for SEC. The Commission needs to restore investor trust following recent market volatility and financial sector cleanups. SEC plays a key role in regulating Ghana’s capital markets, overseeing licensed operators, fund managers, and collective investment schemes.
