Merge OSP, EOCO for greater efficiency – Adawudu suggests

Victor Kwadjoga Adawudu, a member of the NDC Legal and Communications Team, has made a proposal. He suggests merging two key anti-corruption agencies in Ghana: the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Adawudu spoke on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on June 2. He believes that combining these agencies would strengthen Ghana’s fight against corruption. He noted that overlapping roles and fragmented resources hinder effective investigations.

He stated, “My personal view is that OSP and EOCO should be merged.” He emphasized that while OSP has limited resources, EOCO operates nationwide with more logistical support.

By merging these institutions, Ghana could improve its ability to prosecute cases and recover stolen assets. Adawudu said collaboration would lead to more effective prosecutions than having separate agencies.

He also criticized the current system where agencies pass cases between themselves due to unclear jurisdiction. “Now we come with this one saying, ‘This job is not within my confines,’” he explained. Merging these institutions could enhance efficiency in handling cases.

In related news, Adawudu alleged that the NPP breached an agreement with EOCO regarding a visit by Wontumi.
