Michael Kpakpo Allotey has been confirmed as the new Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). This decision came during a Special General Assembly Meeting on Tuesday at Accra City Hall.
Allotey received all 30 valid votes, achieving 100%. This surpassed the two-thirds majority needed under Section 20 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936). Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo supervised the voting process. She urged Assembly Members to confirm the President’s nominee for Mayor.
Ocloo emphasized AMA's importance as “the centre of Greater Accra.” She encouraged members not to let politics hinder progress.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Allotey thanked God and President John Dramani Mahama. He expressed gratitude for being appointed Mayor. “It is an honour I do not take lightly,” he said.
Allotey acknowledged his predecessors' work and pledged to build on their achievements. He stated, “I now hold the baton as Mayor of Accra.” He also mentioned that he could seek advice from former leaders.
He referenced the President's vision, saying, “We are going to restart Accra—starting now.” He added, “What God cannot do does not exist.”
Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I represented the Council of State at the event. He called for bold leadership from Allotey to address pressing challenges in sanitation and urban congestion.
Adamtey emphasized that effective leadership requires strategic foresight, empathy, and discipline.
Mr. Allotey is an experienced entrepreneur and logistics expert with over ten years in various sectors. Before this role, he was CEO of Our God Is Good Real Estate. There, he delivered over 200 affordable housing units in peri-urban Accra.
He has held leadership positions at KYG Consultancy and EXOLUBE Company Ltd., among others. Additionally, he served as Director of Operations for Okaikwei South Constituency and held roles within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
