In a podcast with actress Sophia Bush, Mrs. Obama discussed her choices. She stated she is now able to control her own schedule as a "grown woman."
She expressed frustration that people assume she and Barack are divorcing. She said, “People couldn’t believe I was making a decision for myself.”
Mrs. Obama admitted feeling guilty for stepping back from certain duties. She noted that women often struggle with disappointing others.
She explained, “This year, people assumed my husband and I are divorcing.” She emphasized that society often misunderstands women's choices.
Mrs. Obama also stated, “I chose what was best for me.” She clarified it was not about pleasing others or fulfilling expectations.
Her absence from Trump’s inauguration broke tradition. Despite focusing on herself, she still engages in public speaking and projects.
She remains committed to girls' education initiatives. The Obamas celebrated their 32nd anniversary last October.
