A middle-aged woman and her two children were trapped in their home for nearly three hours. A large fig tree fell, blocking the entrance of their building in Wa, Upper West Region.
The massive tree was uprooted during a strong windstorm. It completely sealed off all exits, leaving the family stranded.
They managed to send distress calls to emergency services, friends, and family. Eventually, a relative rescued them from the situation.
Issah Nurah Danwanaa is the Wa Municipal Chief Executive. He visited the scene and stated that the assembly is working with agencies to remove dangerous trees.
He mentioned that severe windstorms have hit Wa Municipality recently. These storms have uprooted several large trees and caused significant property damage worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
JoyNews’ Upper West Regional correspondent, Rafik Salam, was present during the rescue operation. He captured the dramatic events as they unfolded.
