Mike Oquaye’s committee in breach of NPP’s Constitution- Political analyst

Political analyst Dr. Kwasi Amakye Boateng has sharply criticized the committee led by Prof. Mike Oquaye. This committee is investigating the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2024 elections. Dr. Boateng claims its formation and operations violate the party's constitution.

He argues that this committee is just one of many constitutional breaches under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's leadership. He accused party leaders of ignoring their own rules and governance structures. This disregard has harmed internal discipline and public trust.

Dr. Boateng specifically criticized Prof. Oquaye for unconstitutional conduct. He believes the committee's actions do not align with the NPP’s constitution and lack legitimacy. “There is a complete lack of enforcement of the party’s constitution,” he stated.

He described the current situation as troubling, continuing years of constitutional neglect. Dr. Boateng also labeled Prof. Oquaye as problematic due to recent controversies involving his son, Oquaye Jnr., and Adwoa Safo.

He emphasized that every association should follow its constitution. If the NPP no longer wishes to uphold theirs, they should openly state it, he said.

Additionally, Dr. Boateng accused NPP leadership of mismanaging public resources during their time in office. He argued that poor leadership contributed to their electoral defeat, highlighting disorganization in campaigning and engagement with voters.

“It is not that Mahama campaigned better,” he noted, “but NPP's disrespect for its constitution helped the National Democratic Congress win.” He stressed that what happened in the elections was unprecedented.

In conclusion, Dr. Boateng asserted that NPP's current leadership lacks credibility and direction. He called for urgent internal reforms, including emergency elections to restore accountability and constitutional order within the party.

These remarks were made during an interview with Accra-based Kessben FM on Monday, April 14, 2025.
