The Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners, in collaboration with the military, has intensified its fight against illegal mining on water bodies.
During an operation at Anyinam in the Eastern Region, three chanfan machines used for illegal gold extraction were seized and burned along the Birim River.
This move follows the government’s deployment of armed forces under the enhanced “Operation Halt” initiative.
The Birim River has faced severe pollution due to illegal mining activities.
The operation, which is ongoing, aims to curb environmental degradation and restore water bodies across the region.
