The Member of Parliament for Binduri, Issifu Mahmoud, is calling for urgent action. He wants the government to reassess its security strategy. He also urges the deployment of more military personnel to Bawku and Binduri.
This request follows the tragic killing of two police officers. The officers were shot in Poyamirea, near Binduri, on April 13. This information comes from ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi of the Ghana Police Service.
On JoyNews’ News Desk, Mr. Mahmoud expressed concerns about rising violence. He stated that the police alone cannot manage this situation effectively. The police are overstretched and need military support.
“We need more security presence here,” he said. “The military should take control of certain parts of Binduri.”
He recalled a recent incident where police shot a youth leader. This led to a violent rampage by local youth, damaging many police checkpoints. As a result, security in various neighborhoods is now compromised.
Mr. Mahmoud noted that only main police stations in Bawku and Binduri have military protection. Most other police visibility points have been vandalized, weakening local policing efforts.
“Police services are suspended or withdrawn from many areas,” he emphasized. “It’s crucial that the military steps in to fill these security gaps.” He stressed that areas once covered by police need military reinforcement urgently.
