Military officers retrieve weapons from suspect in Binduri

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) arrested a suspected gunman in Binduri. This followed several search operations in the Upper East Region. The operation began after troops heard gunfire near Binduri Central Market on Monday, April 21, 2025.

A team from the 11 Mechanised Battalion and the Joint Task Force responded quickly. They were supported by the Police and cordoned off the area for a search. In a statement, the military confirmed that they aimed to identify and apprehend those involved.

During the operation, one suspected gunman was arrested and handed over to the Police. The search recovered several items, including an AK-47 rifle and ammunition. Other items included a G3 rifle, a machete, fragmentation jackets, boots, and a helmet.

The military also reported stopping an attempted infiltration by unknown gunmen later that day. Gunfire exchanged between military personnel and these gunmen caused them to flee.

To assist civil authorities in maintaining order in Bawku, GAF intensified operations due to ongoing clashes. Troops conducted more cordon and search operations to restore calm and enhance security.

On April 21, troops at Binduri heard sporadic gunshots from the market area. They quickly moved in and secured the location. The situation is now under control with troops on high alert for any threats.

The GAF is committed to ensuring peace in Bawku. They urge residents to support efforts aimed at restoring normalcy in the area.
