Miners in forest reserves will face severe consequences - Lands Minister warns

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has issued a warning. He addressed individuals involved in mining within Ghana’s forest reserves.

In an interview with Channel One TV on March 26, he stated that mining in these areas is illegal. The government will not tolerate such activities.

He assured that all offenders will face legal consequences, regardless of their status. Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah emphasized the importance of forest reserves for environmental sustainability.

“Anyone mining in our forest reserves is breaking the law,” he declared. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to protecting Ghana's natural resources.

Law enforcement agencies have been directed to crack down on illegal operations. The Minister highlighted the severe impact of illegal mining on forests and rivers.

He noted that these activities cause deforestation, water pollution, and ecosystem destruction. These ecosystems are vital for both human life and wildlife.

He urged individuals and businesses to mine legally and avoid restricted areas. He called on traditional authorities, local leaders, and citizens to support this effort.

Environmental protection is a shared responsibility, he said. All stakeholders must work together to safeguard Ghana’s forest reserves for future generations.
