Ghana's Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has shared important news. The Ministry of Defence is facing a debt of GHȼ3.7 billion. This amount includes GHȼ275 million owed to food suppliers.
She spoke at the swearing-in ceremony for new members of the Ghana Armed Forces Council. This event took place on March 24 at the Ministry of Defence. Professor Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the financial challenges the ministry is dealing with.
“The Ministry of Defence is currently carrying a debt of GHȼ3.7 billion,” she stated. “This includes GHȼ275 million owed to food suppliers.” She explained that this debt covers various obligations, such as payments for food supplies and equipment.
The Vice President acknowledged the broader economic difficulties in Ghana. She reassured the public that she and council members would work together. Their goal is to ensure that the armed forces are well-equipped to meet security needs.
“We are fully committed to ensuring that, despite these challenges, the armed forces remain capable,” she said. "We will collaborate to address these issues effectively."
