The Minority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament has donated GHS 200,000. This donation is for victims of the recent fire at Adum Blue Light Market in Kumasi.
The funds were presented during an emotional ceremony in the Ashanti Region's capital. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin expressed condolences to affected traders. Many lost their goods, shops, and livelihoods in the fire.
“This is not just a donation—it shows you are not alone,” Mr. Afenyo-Markin said. He urged the government to provide meaningful support quickly. He suggested using the Contingency Fund for comprehensive relief.
The fire destroyed a large section of the market, leaving many traders devastated. They are now facing an uncertain future and need urgent state intervention to rebuild.
Mr. Joseph Bobie Ansah received the donation on behalf of the victims. He is the Chairman of the Adum Market Traders Association. He thanked the Minority Caucus for their support, saying it would help those hardest hit.
The Minority's action has received praise from various groups. Many view it as a commendable example of bipartisan concern for ordinary Ghanaians' welfare.
