Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has formally written to President John Mahama, raising concerns over the appointment of Dr. Johnson Asiamah as Bank of Ghana Governor before his nomination has been approved by the Council of State.
The letter references media reports on Dr. Asiamah’s early engagement with the Central Bank’s management and warns against setting a troubling precedent.
Afenyo-Markin likened the situation to a judicial nominee assuming office before formal approval, calling it inappropriate.
The letter also questioned the implications if the Council of State rejects the nomination and urged the Presidency to act swiftly.
It further recommended that Dr. Asiamah refrain from official duties until confirmation, suggesting he receive necessary briefings informally in the meantime.
