The Minority in Parliament is urging Ghana’s security agencies to investigate recent violence in Bawku. This follows a deadly clash between security forces and local youth on April 10. The confrontation reportedly caused multiple fatalities and injuries.
During the unrest, the private residence of MP Mahama Ayariga was allegedly set on fire. Rev. Ntim Fordjour, the MP for Assin South, expressed serious concerns about ongoing instability in Bawku. He emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent further bloodshed.
At a press conference in Accra, Rev. Fordjour said, “We urge all security agencies to investigate the causes of this escalation.” He called for urgent steps to address the situation and restore peace.
The Minority highlighted the importance of professionalism and restraint among security personnel in Bawku. They advocated for a comprehensive strategy to resolve long-standing issues in the region.
Rev. Fordjour stated that security forces must act with professionalism and respect cultural sensitivities. The call comes amid rising concerns over chieftaincy and ethnic tensions that have led to violence and property destruction.
