The Minority in Parliament has accused Attorney-General Dominic Akuritinga Ayine of overstepping his role. They claim he is directing investigations, ordering arrests, and influencing cases before they reach court.
The group argues that the A-G's job is to provide legal advice. They believe he should not conduct investigations or declare individuals guilty prematurely.
Mr. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Second Deputy Minority Whip, raised concerns at a press conference. He questioned when an Attorney-General began ordering arrests and examining evidence for prosecution.
He condemned what he sees as an abuse of power by security operatives. This includes actions by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and National Security during recent raids on former officials.
